The mayors of Asheville, Boone, Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Durham, and Highlands have signed the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. They’ve committed to take steps ranging from buying hybrid vehicles for their city fleets to promoting green practices in the construction of new public buildings.

Teams of volunteers are working across the state to get six more cities to sign on in 2007. If you want to hold your local government accountable on global warming and make the place you live a “Cool City,” contact Tom Jensen in the Chapter office, tom.jensen@sierraclub-nc.org.
